A battery add-on is not a blank application. GridProjeX starts from the existing interconnection agreement on file and tracks what specifically changes: export rating, the utility's storage amendment, and AHJ fire code requirements.

Battery add-ons

A battery added to an existing system is its own interconnection case.

Adding storage to a system that already interconnects is not a new application from scratch, and it is not nothing either. The utility usually needs the existing interconnection agreement on file, the resulting export capability with storage in the loop, and confirmation of whether the addition changes the system’s export rating enough to trigger a new screen.

Existing agreement, carried forwardThe project record starts from the existing interconnection agreement and meter on file, not a blank form, so nothing about the original system has to be re-established from scratch.
Export rating, before and afterStorage can change what a system is capable of exporting even without adding PV. The resulting export capability is tracked against the utility’s screening thresholds as its own value, separate from the original PV-only figure.
The utility’s own battery or storage amendmentMany utilities have a distinct interconnection amendment, form, or net metering addendum specifically for adding storage. That requirement is tracked as its own item rather than assumed to be covered by the original PV paperwork.
Fire and equipment listing requirementsBattery installations frequently carry AHJ-specific fire code and equipment listing requirements distinct from the electrical permit for the PV system. Both tracks stay visible on the one project record.
