Solar and battery interconnection rules in Wyoming

Wyoming net metering. Every threshold below was read out of the document linked at the bottom of this page, and the same rules answer the free screening check.

Who this binds: investor owned utilities, electric cooperatives, other utilities. A utility outside that list sets its own terms, so confirm who serves the address first.

How the size is measured: not published

The published limits here are stated in kilowatts without saying whether that is the inverter rating in alternating current or the array rating in direct current. On a system near a threshold that decides which band it lands in, so the checker asks the question rather than choosing an answer.

Size bands and what each one obliges

Net metering, up to 25 kW Size 0 to 25 kW

A generating capacity of not more than 25 kilowatts, fuelled by solar, wind, biomass or hydropower, on the customer premises and intended primarily to offset the customer own requirements. The customer must provide at its own expense lockable switching equipment capable of isolating the facility, approved by the utility and accessible to it at all times.

  • No more than 25 kW generating capacity
  • Customer supplied lockable isolating switch, utility approved and always accessible
  • Compliance with the national electrical code, IEEE and Underwriters Laboratories standards

The screens that decide it

Ask the utility this, before you sell it

  1. Is this address served by a municipal utility? Municipalities are expressly excluded from the definition that carries the obligation, so the statute does not reach them.
  2. Has the Commission adopted additional control or testing requirements by regulation? The statute allows it and whether any exist was not verified.
  3. Is the 25 kilowatt limit measured in alternating or direct current? The statute says generating capacity and does not define it.

Worth knowing before you quote

Wyoming publishes no review levels, no screens, no fees, no study process, no insurance requirement and no timelines, all confirmed by reading the four statute sections. It does bar a utility from charging a customer generator any fee that would raise its minimum monthly charge above that of other customers in the same rate class, and it places all facility costs and any utility required safety or reliability modifications on the customer. The lockable external disconnect is mandated by statute and is a real materials and labor line on a Wyoming quote. Storage is not an eligible resource and there is no non export pathway. There is no aggregate cap.

Wyoming Statutes Sections 37-16-101 through 37-16-104, net metering

Read and recorded 2026-09-12. Wyoming has a net metering statute and no interconnection standard. It binds an electric utility, defined as any electrical company, irrigation district or electric cooperative distributing to retail customers in the state, and the electrical company definition expressly excludes municipalities. So investor owned utilities, cooperatives and irrigation districts are in and municipal utilities are out. The Commission may adopt additional control and testing requirements by regulation, and whether it has since done so was not checked.

What to do with this

Check a real address

The rules below are the general case. Run the free check to see which utility serves a specific address, which tier the system lands in, and what to ask.

Installers: keep the answer with the job

GridProjeX holds the project from here, with every value tied to the document it came from and the utility and permit tracks run to permission to operate.

Utilities: see what applicants are told

The same published rules your applicants read here are the ones your queue sees. GridProjeX is the record both sides work from.
