  1. What will this cost? MTE publishes no fee schedule. The agreement makes the participant responsible for the cooperative’s costs, whether actual or flat fees, including system impact studies, installation verification, metering and all additional facilities, and requires a good faith estimate to be paid before work begins with a true up invoice afterward. Get that estimate in writing before quoting.
  2. How long will review, inspection and permission to operate take? No timeline of any kind is published.
  3. Is there a Tennessee Valley Authority agreement available to sell this generation, and at what rate? The interconnection agreement expressly creates no obligation of MTE or TVA to buy the energy.
  4. What screening does MTE apply? The agreement refers to any applicable screening process for renewable distributed generation without defining it.

Worth knowing before you quote

Model this job at zero export revenue unless a specific TVA agreement is in hand. Three hardware and paperwork requirements drive cost: an exterior manual, lockable, visible, fusible load break disconnect switch mounted separate from but adjacent to the meter socket and lockable with a single utility padlock; a weatherproof single line diagram fixed next to that switch; and a disconnect visibly marked Solar plus Storage Utility Disconnect. The application has a mandatory NABCEP certification number field, so plan on a NABCEP certified installer of record. The agreement is not assignable and any change of ownership requires a brand new agreement, which is a real problem at a home sale. No insurance dollar amount is required; the participant is only encouraged to carry coverage.
