How the size is measured

gross power rating: the total manufacturer AC nameplate generating capacity, which for inverter based systems OUC calculates by multiplying the total installed DC nameplate generating capacity by 0.85 to account for losses in the conversion from DC to AC.

Tier 1 Size 0 to 10 kW

No application fee. Insurance is recommended rather than required.

A $340 application fee applies and general liability insurance of not less than $1,000,000 is required.

Ask the utility this, before you sell it

  1. What is the rating of the service currently provided at this address? The gross power rating may not exceed 90 percent of it, and the customer pays for any upgrade.
  2. What is this customer annual kilowatt hour consumption? OUC will not approve a system designed to offset more than all of it.
  3. Is this interconnection eligible for the grandfathered full retail TruNet rate, or the later Community Solar Energy Rate?
  4. If a battery is included, will taking the storage rebate forfeit the full retail rate?

Worth knowing before you quote

OUC caps the system at 100 percent of annual consumption, not 115 percent, and separately at 90 percent of the service rating. Neither can be evaluated without customer specific data, so both are asked rather than scored. Full retail net metering is grandfathered only for systems interconnected by 30 June 2025. Adding a meter collar after interconnection approval is not permitted and requires a separate application.
