How the size is measured

gross power rating: normally the total installed AC capacity of the inverters, except that where the total DC capacity is less than the inverter AC output the rating is the installed DC capacity multiplied by 0.85. In effect LCEC takes whichever of the two figures is smaller, which is the opposite of a greater of rule and means a large inverter on a small array is rated by the array.

Size bands and what each one obliges

Tier 1 Size 0 to 10 kW

A $35 application fee applies and no liability insurance is required. This is the cheapest Tier 1 application found in Florida.

Tier 2 Size 10.001 to 100 kW

The tariff sets the application fee at up to $1,000, while LCEC’s participation sheet states $300. The tariff governs, so budget for the ceiling. Insurance is required in the amount named in the Tier 2 agreement.

Tier 3 Size 100.001 to 1000 kW

Ask the utility this, before you sell it

  1. Confirm the gross power rating LCEC will assign. LCEC uses the inverter AC capacity unless the DC capacity is lower, in which case it uses DC times 0.85, so the inverter rating can decide the tier here in a way it does not elsewhere in Florida.
  2. What is the Tier 2 application fee on this job? The tariff allows up to $1,000 while the participation sheet states $300.
  3. What liability insurance amount does the Tier 2 or Tier 3 agreement require? The dollar figure is not published outside the executed agreement.
  4. What is the utility distribution service rating and transformer kVA here? The rating must stay under 90 percent of it.

Worth knowing before you quote

LCEC is the only Florida utility found publishing a firm post inspection commitment: within ten business days of the manual disconnect demonstration it issues the notice. Operating the system before the bidirectional meter is installed is prohibited and may be treated as meter tampering. Banked kilowatt hours roll forward and are settled each January at the prior year avoided wholesale rate, which was $0.02875 per kWh for 2025, credited to the bill below $300 and paid by check above it. That rate, not retail, is what an accurate savings estimate must use for exports.
