How the size is measured

the array rating under standard operating conditions of 1000 watts per square meter solar irradiance, nominal operating cell temperature, air mass 1.5 and the ASTM standard solar spectrum. Lakeland applies no DC to AC conversion factor, so the array rating itself sets the tier.

Size bands and what each one obliges

Tier 1 Size 0 to 10 kW

An array rating under 10 kW at standard operating conditions. General liability insurance of at least $100,000 is required, and a standard homeowner policy at that amount may satisfy it.

Tier 2 Size 10.001 to 100 kW

Above a 10 kW array rating. Lakeland may require an interconnection study and charge the customer for it. The insurance figure in the agreement stays at $100,000 for every tier.

The screens that decide it

Ask the utility this, before you sell it

  1. What is this customer annual consumption? The total size of all generation and storage may not exceed 100 percent of it, and the measurement window is not published.
  2. What is the transformer bank and service cable capacity here? Above 90 percent of it the upgrade is at the customer sole expense.
  3. What is the interconnection study charge at this tier? Lakeland publishes no amount.
  4. Confirm the current insurance requirement. The all tiers agreement states $100,000 for every tier, and the larger figures quoted elsewhere do not appear in it.

Worth knowing before you quote

Lakeland measures tiers on the array rating with no 0.85 factor, unlike OUC, KUA and Ocala. Storage is written into the same agreement rather than a separate one and must comply with UL Standard 1642. Excess energy is credited and never paid: in no event is the customer paid for energy delivered to the grid. Lakeland publishes no flat application fee and no aggregate program cap.
